As part of GMP’s Operation Avro, a total of 50 offenders were arrested for a range of offences, including possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs, money laundering, theft, perverting the course of justice, assault and recall to prison. A traffic operation resulted in eight vehicles seized, 105 speeding offences recorded, 13 people caught using their mobile phone while driving and 17 fixed penalty notices for road traffic offences. In the afternoon, our mounted unit patrolled the Little Hulton area, while officers attended local schools to deliver inputs to students. AVRO is a force-wide initiative that delivers a surge of extra resources and specialist officers to a different district within Greater Manchester each month. The day saw GMP engage in a number of activities through proactive policework, tackling the issues which matter most to the community. Chief Inspector Gareth Humphreys, of our Salford District, said: What is Operation AVRO? Operation AVRO is a force wide initiative that delivers extra resources and specialist officers to a different district within Greater Manchester each month and launched in Salford in October 2021. Since then, it has travelled around the force with the operation targeting crimes and concerns that members of the public in that district have told GMP give them the most concern.
