SALFORD ‘CHIMES’ TO THE ‘SOUNDS AROUND TOWN!'

    SHARE |

Neighbourhood’s all-around Salford were dancing, rocking, singing, and just having a great time across the Bank Holiday weekend as the ‘Sounds ‘Round Town’ hit local high streets with a free roadshow of live music, D.J.’s and performances for all the family.

The fun started in Walkden at the Shopping Centre on Saturday with DJ Mama Char, featuring along with live performances from amongst others the NIA Choir, Stage Directions, and the BBC Philharmonic’s ‘Musical Storyland’.

On the Bank Holiday Monday, Church Street in Eccles was the venue for the music tour, with live music from Danny Henry’s ‘Dance Out Percussion’ and Chia Kali and a whole host of other entertainers and performers.

In between the ‘Sounds ‘Round Town’ set up camp on the Sunday, outside Irlam Catholic Club complete with seaside deck chairs, flags, bunting and a mini marquee for an afternoon of brilliant live music including the BBC Philharmonic’s ‘Musical Storyland’ performance, followed by the fantastic Zola on the steel pans, bringing a taste of early summer to Irlam.

Indie wonderkid Alex Spencer entertained in his own fantastic style, with DJ Levi Love keeping the beat going in between the live sessions. The Walk the Plank’s giant ‘Collector’ magpie puppet proved popular with younger visitors, whilst host Leonie Higgins kept the three hour ‘free’ show moving along.

The music theme carried on into the evening with the Irlam and Cadishead Community Festival supporting live DJ’s, bands, and music, with the Pontiac Band playing in the Catholic Club and other Irlam venues including the ‘Corner Lounge’ and ‘Las Bombas’ cranking up the amps, for a great evening of live music for all tastes. A great way to spend the Bank Holiday Sunday despite the occasional shower!

Irlam and Cadishead Festival chair Sam Butterworth said,

“A fantastic afternoon with the ‘Sounds ‘Round Town’ team that was well supported and enjoyed by all.

It was great for our own Irlam Festival team to get involved with this free event and support live music at several venues in Irlam and keep the music theme going into the night.

Irlam and Cadishead Festival on the Bank Holiday Monday in August is the biggest free event in Irlam and Cadishead and will be celebrating its 75th Anniversary next year.

To be involved with the ‘Sounds ‘Round Town’ live music tour around Salford was a great way of promoting our own local Festival in August and help to spread the word that live music is alive and kicking in Irlam and Cadishead.”
