A plan to convert a large terraced home into a house of multiple occupation (HMO) in the Weaste area of Salford has been submitted.
The property is on Park Bank, off Liverpool Street and is current a four-bedroom home.
Applicant Steve Lang wants full planning permission to convert the house into a seven-bed HMO.
Such applications in the city have been the cause of controversy against a backdrop of a major housing shortage across the UK.
In 2021, One local councillor, Councillor Bob Clarke, said Salford was in danger of becoming ‘bedsit city’ while more recently the boss of a housing trust of an HMO in Ellesmere Park, Eccles admitted she was powerless to prevent ‘rogue occupants’ of the 10-bed property making life hell for neighbouring residents.
Complaints included sex work, drug dealing, fighting, verbal abuse and intimidation, dog attacks, cannabis use, filth strewn around the property – including human waste – homeless people living in derelict garages, knife crime and loud music played through the night into the small hours of the morning.
