A male has been arrested following a stabbing incident which took place outside of Irlam and Cadishead Leisure Centre earlier this morning. Police were called at around 6:15am this morning (Saturday 9th December) whereupon they found a male having suffered what was said to be a superficial cut to his leg. He was transported to hospital for treatment but the injury is not considered to be life threatening. A male has been arrested and detained in custody for questioning by police. In a statement a spokesperson for GMP, said: "At approximately 6.15am on Saturday 9 December 2023, police attended a report of a stabbing that occurred in the car park of Irlam Leisure Centre, Liverpool Road." "On arrival officers found the male victim with a cut to his leg and he has been treated at hospital for superficial injuries. Another male was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault and remains in custody for questioning." Sgt Paul Mottram, of Eccles Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "CID is now leading the ongoing investigation and will continue their enquiries throughout the day. "The car park is being preserved as a scene but will be scaled down as the initial enquiries progress. I am hopeful that minimal disruption to the leisure centre will be caused. "This was an isolated incident and should not present any cause for concern."
