An allotment society in Salford is a step closer to creating a nature reserve for the local community to enjoy after netting a donation from a waste management specialist.

Poorlots Allotment and Leisure Society in Cadishead has secured a £650 donation from CSG through the business' Community Chest initiative.

CSG operates at 32 locations across the country, with one of its largest waste facilities found in Cadishead.

Poorlots Allotment and Leisure Society is currently raising £15,000 towards a new 1,000 square metres nature reserve, with work scheduled to start next year.

The nature reserve will be open to local residents and schools and will include a wildlife pond, a wildflower meadow and a bird hide.

Alan Cavanagh, chairman of the society, said:

"We're extremely grateful to CSG for the donation. CSG is a huge part of Cadishead and it's fantastic to see the business getting involved with the community.

"We are edging ever closer to our £15,000 target and we're planning to have the site finished for summer next year.

"It will be a great place for people to visit and for nature to flourish."

CSG is a major waste specialist, helping households and organisations nationwide by offering a complete variety of services including septic tank emptying and treatment, as well as recovery and disposal of specialist waste such as chemicals and oil.

Its Cadishead facility on Liverpool Road is the company's flagship waste processing centre.

Cheryl West, Technical Waste Manager at CSG, said:

"We're delighted to support Poorlots Allotment and Leisure Society and its nature reserve project.

"Our Community Chest scheme was launched this year to support the clubs and groups that mean a lot to the people in the areas in which we operate. This nature reserve will be a fantastic addition for the local community and I can't wait to visit when it's finished."
