BIN COLLECTIONS MISSED DUE TO ‘INCONSIDERATE PARKING’ IN SALFORD

    SHARE |

Bin collections have been missed in Salford due to “inconsiderate parking” in some areas of the city.

Council waste vehicles have struggled to drive through Robert Hall Street, Percy Drive and Paris Avenue, where collections have failed.

Safety concerns have also been raised, with pedestrians not being seen when crossing roads, and parked cars blocking the view for drivers.

New parking restrictions are set to be brought in to tackle the problems.

A series of double yellow lines will be added to the roads where cars are blocking access to refuse vehicles.

Two people have made objections against the plan for more restrictions.

    One said:

“Paris Avenue has a number of residents living in flats with no driveways – the street designed to cater for residents only and provide parking for said flats and also Paris Avenue residents with more than one vehicle, visitors and service vehicles.

“It’s a constant battle with commuters dumping cars here all day, residents from apartments from elsewhere, hotel patrons, tram park and riders, sports facility users and of course football fans and more. It’s a constant stream of vehicles 24/7.

“The avenue is already way over capacity with residents forced to park off road. Traffic will just be funnelled down the avenue to park in an area with many existing and worsening issues including that of increased danger of collision between vehicles and children playing/pedestrians.

“The proposal to put down even more lines in the area is simply not acceptable without protecting parking for residents simultaneously.”

    Another added:

“Apartment complexes are being approved to be built, however, don’t offer sufficient parking arrangements for even a single car per residence therefore we are required to look elsewhere to park.

“Having to find parking further away raises concern for my safety, being unable to park as close as feasible to my home. I would be happy to get parking within my apartment complex, however there are not enough spaces.”

The plan to introduce new restrictions in the areas was supported by ward councillors at the Ordsall, Langworthy, Charlestown, Pendleton and Quays Highways Task Group meeting.

Other waiting restrictions are set to be introduced in Salford on Trenam Place, and Cromwell Road in Irlam.

New Traffic Regulation Orders covering the areas were authorised today  (Wednesday, February 14) by councillor Mike McCusker, lead member for planning and sustainable development at Salford council.
